Deeper Into Movies founder and Brett Easton Ellis über fan, Steven T. Hanley has created a soundtrack for the cold nihilistic Hollywood noir ‘Imperial Bedrooms’, the sequel to Ellis’ Generation X classic ‘Less Than Zero’ and written 20 years later. One again Clay, the protagonist comes home to LA from the East Coast over Christmas, this time as a screenwriter immersed in the toxic double-crossing world shrouded in glamour and promise that is Hollywood.

Interspersing recordings of Bret himself through ambient drone and nocturnal soundscapes the mix encapsulates the ice cold betrayal and paranoia that defines the book’s atmosphere. Clay continuously receives ‘I’m watching you’ texts, acquaintances are mysteriously dying brutal deaths, the paranoia is palpable and ominous. Betrayal is everywhere. Exploitation, seduction and power-play is the currency here. As the mix grows you can hear the dark side of the dream factory, the parties, the dreams of fame and the darkness and neon glow of Mulholland Drive and the San Fernando Valley when the sun goes down.
